Following two teasers, Dynamite Entertainment has formally announced a new event title beginning in April focusing on the Gold Key superheroes. The Sovereigns brings together, once again, the Gold Key heroes Turok, Solar, Magnus, and Doctor Spektor in a unique series with four writers - Ray Fawkes, Kyle Higgins, Aubrey Sitterson, and Chuck Wendig. The Sovereigns kicks off in April with a $1 48-page #0 issue, but no details were given on if it is a one-shot, a miniseries, or ongoing.

"The Sovereigns #0 is the beginning of an epic tale that will change everything you know about some of comicdom's greatest and longest-tenured heroes!," reads an official description of the issue. "Apart, they've saved countless lives in hundreds of world-shattering conflicts. Together, they form a team that has protected the world in the past, present and future. Now, they will be reunited one last time to face a threat that will forever change their legacy and bring them face to face with their final destiny!"

The Sovereigns #0 works as an anthology, with each writer doing his own story - Fawkes with an over-arching story, then Wendig doing a Turok story, Sitterson on Doc Spektor, and Higgins on Magnus.

"The Sovereigns is the story of all the legendary Gold Key characters at the apex of their careers as heroes - and at their moment of greatest crisis," said Fawkes, who is working with artist Johnny Desjardins. "It all begins and ends with Turok, King of the Lost Valley. It turns out his life and his kingdom are more important to the survival of the world than everybody knew."

Dynamite CEO/Publisher Nick Barrucci says that The Sovereigns will present the Gold Key characters "not as you know them," and that this is "a huge initiative" for the publisher. This is Dynamite's third relaunch of the "Gold Key" heroes after they acquired the license in 2013.

This relaunch comes in light of Comcast taking ownership of the Gold Key characters through NBCUniversal's purchase of DreamWorks.
