The January 20 edition of Entertainment Weekly promises to have new details on Marvel Television's upcoming Defenders series on Netflix, and the magazine's website has already disclosed some of it - including the first in-character shot of the team, and the first look and first name of Sigourney Weaver's villain.
“Sigourney is the kind of person you can buy as the smartest person in the room, who you can also buy as a person holding a flamethrower. Her character is a very powerful force in New York City. She’s everything Sigourney is: sophisticated, intellectual, dangerous,” showrunner Marco Ramirez told Entertainment Weekly of Weaver's character, who is named Alexandra. “I’m sorry. I can only say a bunch of adjectives right now.”
Created in 2004 by Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev during their run on Daredevil, Alexander Bont was framed as the Kingpin of Crime before Wilson Fisk took over and took the name. Interestingly, one of Bont's earliest acts as a major crime figure in the Marvel U was in killing a hero known as 'the Defender' as told in in Daredevil #67. After spending years in prison thanks to Daredevil, Bont died in pursuit of revenge against Matt Murdock due to an MGH overdose.
Defenders is currently filming for a late 2017 release on Netflix.
