Matthew McConaughey is one of the most in-demand lead actors in American film, but he's also one of the last majot holdouts for joining a superhero film - but not because he hasn't had offers. Most recently, McConaughey passed on a major role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
"I like Guardians of the Galaxy, but what I saw was 'It’s successful, and now we’ve got room to make a colorful part for another big-name actor,'" McConaughey explained to Playboy. "I’d feel like an amendment."
McConaughey was reportedly offered the role of a villain in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It is unknown what character that would have been, as Elizabeth Debicki's Ayesha has been described as the major villain in the film. Some have connected Ayesha with the Marvel Comics' character "Her," the female counterpart to Adam Warlock, begging the question if whether Warlock would have been featured had McConaughey accepted the role.
McConaughey has previously stated that, while he hasn't found a role in a superhero film that suits him, he's open to the idea
McConaughey will portray the villainous Man In Black in The Dark Tower, an adaptation of Steven King's fantasy novels that is due out in theaters July 28.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is due out May 5.
