Though little is known about the role, the role of Han Solo's as-yet-unnamed mentor in his upcoming Star Wars solo spin-off seems to be a prestige role of which Disney and Lucasfilm are seeking a big-name actor. The latest name connected to the role is that of Dark Knight actor Christian Bale, although according to The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit its in the past-tense.
True that Disney & Lucasfilm wanted someone big for HAN SOLO...before Woody Harrelson, CHRISTIAN BALE was the other big name in the mix.— Borys Kit (@Borys_Kit) January 3, 2017
Though Bale hasn't appeared in a Star Wars film, he did homage one of The Empire Strikes Back's most iconic scenes in his post-apocalyptic fantasy film Reign of Fire.
The untitled Han Solo spin-off film is in pre-production for a May 25, 2018 theatrical release.
