The hunt for a director for 2019's Captain Marvel film will reportedly begin again in the new year, according to Variety's Justin Kroll. Kroll tweeted that Marvel is expecting a new script treatment for the film soon, and that meetings with potential directors would follow in early 2017.

Marvel has put forth an exhaustive search for the right director for Captain Marvel, having reportedly considered numerous candidates up to this point throughout 2016, with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige stating in April they'd announce a director "in a month or two," then in October saying that Marvel would announce a director "by the end of the year." Feige has made it clear that the studio wishes to hire a female director for the film.
Captain Marvel is scheduled to be released in theaters March 8, 2019.
