This week's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. introduced another major Marvel character - one that may have big implications for how Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ties into certain previous Marvel films.
Spoilers for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ahead.
This week's episode, "The Good Samaritan," expanded the show's Ghost Rider mythos by introducing another Spirit of Vengeance, albeit only briefly as part of Robbie Reyes's origin story. In the scene, a dead Robbie is revived by another Ghost Rider on a motorcycle who give him his powers to save his life.
Here's a clip:
It's important to note this second Ghost Rider is never named, but it strongly resembles comic books' original, Johnny Blaze. Robbie simply says he's "the devil."
A previous scene in an earlier episode made an oblique reference to the Nicolas Cage Ghost Rider films, in which the actor played Blaze, so this scene could be a metaphorical passing of the torch (flaming skull?) from one iteration of Ghost Rider to the next.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Tuesday nights on ABC.
