Marvel Television and Jessica Jones showrunner Melissa Rosenberg are taking a stand, with a goal to to hire only female directors for their upcoming second season. Rosenberg announced this during a conference earlier this month titled "Transforming Hollywood 7: Diversifying Entertainment" at University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, as reported by Variety.
For the second season, Rosenberg reportedly said the goal was originally just to book women directors first and then hire male directors to fill in the rest of the episodes. But then someone involved with Jessica Jones (whom Rosenberg didn't identify) came up with the idea of an all-female slate of directors - which she and Marvel Television both approved.
Four episodes of Jessica Jones' 13 first season episodes were directed by women.
Jessica Jones is reportedly set to begin filming its second season in 2017 for an anticipated 2018 debut.
