Mark Millar himself has put wrestler/actor John Cena's name into consideration to play the title character in 20th Century Fox's adaptation of his and Leinil Yu's Superior. The writer tweeted Monday that became interested in Cena for the role after watching the recent film Trainwreck.
"Just watched Amy Schumer's Trainwreck and it's my fave comedy in years," tweeted Millar "John Cena so funny in it I literally just requested him for Superior."
Like professional wrestlers Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Dave Bautista before him, John Cena's film career is on the rise. He began starring in WWE-produced films, but recently he's expanding into more mainstream comedies like Trainwreck, Sisters, and Daddy's Home.
After Dwayne Johnson was cast as Black Adam for DC's upcoming Shazam film, some fans speculated that John Cena-as-Shazam would be a good counterpoint versus Johnson. Millar and Yu's Superior, which was created in 2010, is regarded as a homage to DC's Shazam.
No release has been set for 20th Century Fox's Superior.
