Apple has announced a partnership with Nintendo to bring a new Super Mario game, entitled Super Mario Run, to iTunes and iOS this holiday season.
The announcement was made during Apple's unveiling of its new iPhone 7 on Wednesday. Super Mario Run is a tapping- and skill-based platformer, in which players run around the Mushroom Kingdom collecting Toads. In addition, Mario themed stickers will be available on iMessage.
This is a change for Nintendo, which has traditionally been reticent to license its proprietary characters, especially Mario, to other platforms.
Additionally, Pokemon Go, a property Nintendo has some ownership of, will be available on the Apple Watch at an unspecified date.
No price point or release date for Super Mario Run or the Pokemon Go port has been announced.
