A purported partial cast list from the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming may reveal many of the as-yet-unidentified roles for the film - including some major Spider-Man characters. The list was tweeted from an apparent paparazzi, then shared on Reddit, after which the tweet was deleted from Twitter. Although containing some apparent mispellings and several short-hand abbreviations, this is the type of list sometimes circulated on a film set.
Chief among the names on the unconfirmed, unofficial cast list is Bokeem Woodbine as "Shultz/Shocker." Herman Schultz (a.k.a. Shocker) is a lesser-known Spider-Man enemy who uses special gauntlets to unleash powerful force vibrations. If accurate, he could be a secondary antagonist in the film.
Additionally, Angourie Rice is listed as "Betty Brandt," who is likely a version of Peter's comic book Daily Bugle co-worker Betty Brant, who was played by Elizabeth Banks in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy.
Also of note is that Kenneth Choi's character is reportedly named "Principal Morita" - the same surname as his Howling Commando from Captain America: The First Avenger. Since Choi's casting, fans have speculated that he could be playing a descendent of that character, given Marvel's typical resistance to putting the same actor in two major roles in separate films.
Most of the rest of the cast, including Hannibal Burress, Martin Starr, and others seem to be playing faculty and students of Peter's high school if this list is accurate, though two names stand out.
First is "Cindy," played by Chinese-American actress Tiffany Espensen. This first "Cindy" that comes to mind in Marvel's Spider-Man titles is Cindy Moon, a.k.a. Silk, who was bitten by a radioactive spider the same day as Peter Parker and who has similar powers. Though her story might be too big for a film of which she is not the star, it's not inconceivable that she could simply appear as a supporting character as a kind of Easter Egg, or even a backdoor set up for a spin-off.
Second is Selenis Leyva's "Ms. Warren." Ms. Warren could have some connection to Miles Warren, a.k.a. The Jackal, a Spider-Man foe known for cloning Spider-Man and people close to him. She could even be his wife, Monica Warren, who has only been seen in brief flashbacks in comic books.
This cast list also names Zendaya's character as "Michelle," the name she was given when her casting was first reported, despite recent reports that the young actress is playing a version of Mary Jane Watson.
The cast list remains unconfirmed, so all of this should be taken with a hefty grain of salt.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is scheduled to hit theaters July 7, 2017.
