Zendaya's secret unidentified role in 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming is now known to be Mary Jane Watson, according to The Wrap. Citing two unspecified sources, the online Hollywood trade says the 19-year-old former Disney Channel star's reveal as Mary Jane was intended to be kept secret and only revealed in the movie a la Benedict Cumberbatch's role in Star Trek: Into Darkness and Marion Cotillard's in Dark Knight Rises.
A recent draft of the Spider-Man: Homecoming script reportedly has Zendaya's character hint at her true identity at several points in the movie, with Vulture adding that the reveal of her true identity would come as "a twist meant to be confirmed near the end of the film."
Although there have been several officially-released and paparazzi photos from the Spider-Man: Homecoming set in Atlanta, Zendaya has yet to be seen in any of these shots. It's not known if she would dye her hair to the near-trademark red of her suspected role's comic book counterpart. Kirsten Dunst dyed her hair for the role in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, as did Shailene Woodley for Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man 2.
