While it was previously revealed that Terminator and Aliens actor Lance Henriksen had joined the cast of Legends of Tomorrow season 2, his character was not yet known. We now know that Henriksen will reportedly play none other than Obsidian, the longtime member - and one time enemy - of the Justice Society. His role was revealed at a Television Critics Association event (via CBR).
In comic books, Obsidian is the son of the original Green Lantern Alan Scott, and brother of Jade. He first used his darkness manipulation powers as part of Infinity, Inc. before later serving on the Justice League, and then joining his father in the Justice Society. In Geoff Johns's JSA run, Obsidian was revealed to have been abused by his foster father, and was possessed by Ian Karkull, a long lost enemy of the Justice Society who manipulated Obsidian into using his powers to possess members of the JSA and turn them against each other.
Later stories redeemed Obsidian, curing him of his mental imbalance and allowing him to come out of the closet as gay.
The nature of Henriksen's role as Obsidian has not been revealed, though he is known to be a member of the Justice Society. Could a betrayal be in the cards?
DC's Legends of Tomorrow season 2 premieres October 13 on CW.
