Mike Mignola is collaborating with writer/artist Gary Gianni on a new OGN titled Hellboy: Into The Silent Sea. Scheduled to be released in 2017, the book Mignola will co-write the book with Giani.
Hellboy: Into The Silent Sea follows up on the events of the story "The Island," with Hellboy setting sail from a deserted island only to encounter ghost pirates in pursuit of an ancient sea creature.
"I imagine if Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea were a movie, the Hollywood hyperbole would describe it as Hellboy's greatest adventure,” said Gianni. “Yes... it's Hellboy as you've never seen him before, laughing, loving and battling his way across the stormy seas! You'll be thrilled as he faces cosmic forces terrorizing a haunted ship manned by a desperate crew!"
Gianni is best known as the former illustrator of the long-running Prince Valiant comic strip. In addition to illustrating that strip from 2004 to 2012, he also created a creator-owned series titled Monster Men which debuted as a back-up in Mignola's Hellboy.
In addition to co-writing the OGN, Mignola will provide a cover, while longtime collaborator Dave Stewart will provide colors. No specific release date for Hellboy: Into The Silent Sea has been announced.
