Spoilers ahead for Invincible Iron Man #12.
After announcing in July that the recently-introduced Riri Williams would replace Tony Stark as Iron Man, Invincible Iron Man #12 has reached another step in telling that story with the first meeting of the once and future Iron Men. Earlier in the series, Riri reverse-engineered a version of the Iron Man armor and caught the attention of authorities when she took it out for a test run.
Tony Stark goes to Chicago to confront Riri, who is in the midst of an arguement with her mother Sharon about the armor as well. Writer Brian Michael Bendis uses the elder Williams and Stark as reader surrogates to detail Riri being a 15-year-old M.I.T. prodigy (and now drop-out), and how it mirrors Tony's own past.
Riri said that the next step in her development of her own Iron Man armor is an A.I. After asking (and being turned down) to use one of Stark's, the young character endeavors to create her own A.I.
"Oh, really? Just like that," Stark replied.
"You did. In a cave," answered Riri.
After seeing a little bit of himself in the younger Williams, Stark attempts to diffuse the argeument with mother and daughter with a dinner invitation to Wienerschnitzel, a United States-based hot dog chain.
The story looks to be continuing in September 7's Invincible Iron Man #13. No release date for the Riri-led Invincible Iron Man relaunch has been given by Marvel.
