Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada has publicly responded to Suicide Squad director David Ayer's "F--- Marvel!" comment while at the film's recent New York premiere.
Hey Marvel faithful I know you’re upset but cut @DavidAyerMovies a break, it was all in good fun. Can’t wait to see SS, best of luck David!— JoeQuesada (@JoeQuesada) August 2, 2016
Quesada has some history with making off-handed comments about a competitor. In 2002 just after the release of the first Spider-Man film, the then-Marvel Editor-In-Chief was quoted by the New York Observer as having some harsh words for DC Comics.
"What the f--- is DC anyway?" Mr. Quesada said, stoking the fires. "They'd be better off calling it AOL Comics. At least people know what AOL is. I mean, they have Batman and Superman, and they don't know what to do with them. That's like being a porn star with the biggest dick and you can't get it up. What the f---?"
Quesada, who had worked for DC previously to joining Marvel, then said the rivalry between the two companies "made it better for the fans.
"I liked it when the two companies hated each other," said Quesada. "It made it better for the fans. You know, if you like DC, then you hated Marvel. If you like Marvel, then you hated DC."
