During Comic-Con International: San Diego weekend this year, two creator-owned titles from Image Comics were reportedly optioned for television series adaptations: Deadly Class and Black Magick.
Captain America: Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo have optioned Rick Remender and Wes Craig's Deadly Class for a teleivision series in partnership with Sony Pictures TV, according to Deadline. The prospective series is reportedly aiming for a cable network or unspecified streaming service, with Remender co-writing alongside Miles Feldsott and Banshee's Adam Targum serving as showrunner.
Meanwhile, current Wonder Woman creators Greg Rucka and Nicola Scott have sold the rights to their recent Image series Black Magick to Groundwell Productions, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The intention is for the series to be an hour-long live-action series, aimed at cable or streaming services like Deadly Class.
“We had a lot of attention and some very difficult choices to make when it came to finding Black Magick a home,” Rucka said. “Ultimately, Michael London and Groundswell took the day with a passion and sincerity that certainly make Nic and I feel that Rowan is in very good hands.”
