With Black Panther #1 reportedly selling in excess of 300,000 copies, Marvel has announced a second Black Panther title coming later this year. Announced at the publisher's private Retailer Presentation at Comic-Con International: San Diego Friday, Black Panther: World of Wakanda aims to expand the franchise with a focus on supporting characters from the main solo title. Ta-Nehisi Coates will oversee the title, and will co-write select stories.
The first arc of Black Panther: World of Wakanda will focus on the ex-Dora Milaje duo Ayo and Aneka, and be written by Coates and Roxane Gay, with art by Alitha Martinez. The arc will follow how they transitioned from being part of T'Challa's elite security force to becoming the Midnight Angels and ultimately falling in love.
The first issue will also have a 10-page standalone story by Coates and Yona Harvey about Znezi, the person who sparked the riot at the beginning of the Black Panther series. This one-shot will be drawn by Afua Richardson, who also illustrated the Black Panther: World of Wakanda #1 cover.
