Cartoon Network has renewed The Powerpuff Girls rebooted cartoon for a second season. Citing a ratings success of 81 million viewers for its series premire in April, the Cartoon Network show also earnd its first Emmy nomination last week for "Outstanding Short Form Animated Program" - the original earned a total of five nominations, winning two.
“The Powerpuff Girls is on a momentous run with its first Emmy nod, a debut appearance at one of the biggest fan events of the year, and now a second season greenlight,” caid the network's CCO Rob Sorcher. “Congratulations to the Cartoon Network creative teams who have super-powered this property with the perfect amount of Chemical X to bring a hit show for a new generation of fans.”
The Powerpuff Girls was originally created by Craig McCracken for the popular late-1990s original cartoon series, which birthed a feature film in 2002.
