Brian Michael Bendis, Michael Gaydos and David Mack are reuniting for a new Jessica Jones ongoing series under the "Marvel NOW!" banner. Announced at IGN, the new series is precipitated by the character's world having "blown up in her face" according to Bendis.

"You're going to find out about it in the first issue. We're going to open up a book where Jessica's world has blown up in her face. She's aLt a place you'll least expect her," said Bendis. "You're going to find all of her relationships have altered. And we're slowly going to find out why. I do like writing Jessica where we have to figure out why this has happened."

Just as Jessica Jones appears sporadically in her husband's Power Man & Iron Fist title, Cage (and their daughter Danielle) will appear in her new ongoing.

"Having a child completely changes your perspective on everything, some in obvious ways and some in not-so-obvious ways. Some of them really sneak up on you. Like caring about somebody more than yourself, particularly when you're very self-involved like Jessica would tend to be, is a big thing," said Bendis. " Luke and Jessica have tried to raise a baby in a very dangerous environment. We talked about this during Avengers, you're raising a baby in Avengers Mansion and somebody's trying to knock that building over every four days. This is not the safest place for a baby. So your perspective changes, and as an investigator and a detective her perspective will change because she's a mother. I know some people are worried about that baby being dragged like a sack of potatoes that holds down the story or something, but I can think of many ways to tell the story celebrate this part of her life and at the same time complicates it to a degree that a lot of people can relate to. I think a lot of people can relate to trying to 'do it all.' Lord knows I can.”

Bendis said this new series would have launched coinciding with the debut of Netflix's Jessica Jones series in 2015, but opted to wait so as Gaydos and Mack could join him. The three did do a special free one-shot coinciding with the show's debut last year however.

"I've worked with other artists on Jessica and always enjoyed it, but in my mind she never looks and feels and breathes and smells more like Jessica than when Michael draws her,” said Bendis. "Between [Michael’s art] and David Mack, who is one of my closest friends who did all the covers, that is the signature in which people think of her, of those visuals. So having them all back together and having everyone be just a little bit better at their jobs -- I think Michael is a better illustrator and David is a better painter -- and I have to rise to the occasion and meet them.”

2016 is the fifteenth anniversary of the Jones character, who debuted in 2001's Alias series for Marvel's adult imprint, Marvel MAX. The character experienced a new level of fame with the debut of the Netflix show however, which Marvel Senior Vice President of Publishing Tom Brevoort calls a "gift."

“The one thing that the show did, it took Jessica Jones and made her much more of a household name than she ever was when Alias was being done, and much more important in the Marvel firmament, one of the very few characters that's headlined a Marvel property in film or on television, so consequently there's just more interest right now than a Jessica comic than there might have been a year ago or a couple of years ago,” Brevoort said. “That's the one beautiful thing for us, the one ancillary gift that the show gave us was a much bigger audience and a much bigger spotlight to do the kind of stories that have always been done in Alias and now in Jessica Jones.”
