Marvel has released another teaser showing the growing divide that Marvel NOW! will bring to the Marvel universe in the wake of Civil War II.
Paired once again with the word "Divided," the teaser features Ms. Marvel opposite Riri Williams from Invincible Iron Man clad in gray and black armor. Given she's appearing in monochromatic armor akin to the now-deceased James "Rhodey" Rhodes and being paired with a legacy hero in Ms. Marvel, could Marvel be tipping their hand that Riri Williams is on her way to becoming the next War Machine?
For you non-Invincible Iron Man readers, Riri Williams is an MIT student who managed to piece together her own Iron Man-esque armor out of parts and machinery cobbled from her campus.
Here is the new teaser image, flipped to better see Riri in the War Machine-eseque armor.
Of course given our speculation about Iron Man’s status as of Civil War II #3, is it possible Williams bypasses War Machine and goes straight to main 'Iron Person' status?
This calls back to the previous Marvel NOW! teaser, which stated "You thought you knew the whole story..."
This is now the third Marvel NOW! teaser featuring an established character opposite a new, or up-until-now relatively minor character. The first featured Steve Rogers opposite the brand-new character Mosaic; the second paired Captain Marvel opposite career-minor character Slapstick; and now this third featuring Ms. Marvel opposite newer, supporting character Riri Williams.
The teaser images and the text together now suggests that not only will the Marvel universe will be experiencing a divisive 'fracturing' or a 'shattering' as part of the latest incarnation of Marvel NOW!, but that a new generation of heroes may emerge.
