Warner Bros. has cast Sacha Baron Cohen to star in an adaptation of the classic Lee Falk comic strip Mandrake the Magician, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The studio has reported hired Get Hard director Etan Cohen, whom also wrote 2008's Tropic Thunder. Cohen will produce the prospective film, alongside Charles Roven's Atlas Entertainment.
Warner Bros. first optioned Mandrake in 2012 after Disney's option lapsed. In the late 2000s, a version with Jonathan Rhys Meyers was in development with Baldwin Entertainment and Hyde Park, but never got past the planning stages.
No timeline for production or release was given by the Hollywood trade.
