Jeff Goldblum's casting as the Grandmaster in Marvel Studios' Thor: Ragnarok was eyebrow-raising to some, and for the actor -- who is currently promoting Independence Day: Resurgence - it provoked some excitement.
"He’s a hedonist, a pleasure-seeker, an enjoyer of life and tastes and smells. I thought, ‘I can do that, I’ll bet!’" Goldblum told Empire. "I’m working on my part every day. I’m a sponge, researching.”
The veteran summer blockbuster actor says Thor: Ragnarok director Taiki Waititi is encouraging Goldbum to take what's written for him in the script and "make it my own" with improvisation.
"He is encouraging me to improvise and make it my own, and that’s what I’m trying to do," Goldbum continued. "I hope he doesn’t throw me out on the first day!”
Goldblum will join Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, and Cate Blanchett to film Thor: Ragnarok later this year in Brisbane, Australia. The actor says he's scheduled to be on set for "three weeks to a month" and will be his first time filming in Australia.
“Not only Chris Hemsworth, Cate Blanchett, Anthony Hopkins… jeez, that’s gonna be fun. I’ve never been to Australia except to do these little publicity things.”
Thor: Ragnarok is scheduled to be released November 3, 2017.
