Following a string of minor casting reports, producer Simon Kinberg has confirmed that Wolverine 3 is indeed already filming. Kinberg also addressed some rumors of other X-Men characters who may appear in the film, as well as Wolverine 3's setting.
“I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say about that,” Kinberg told Collider. “I will agree with you that Patrick Stewart was rumored to be a part of that film. It takes place in the future, and as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie. It’s violent, it’s kind of like a western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film.”
This confirms a few details fans have presumed for some time, including Wolverine 3's R-rating. Kinberg's comments that the film takes place "in the future" are also interesting, as many rumors have pegged Wolverine 3 as an adaptation of the post-apocalyptic "Old Man Logan" story.
Wolverine 3 is scheduled for a March 3, 2017 theatrical release.
