Earlier this year, X-Men: Apocalypse producer Simon Kinberg said that Psylocke actress Olivia Munn had auditioned for a role in Deadpool before landing the part of the psychic mutant assassin. Now, Munn herself says the Deadpool role was that of Vanessa, Wade Wilson's longsuffering girlfriend - a role she turned down because it wouldn't put her in the action.

According to Munn's interview in American Way, she felt the part of Vanessa didn't offer enough chance to get in on the action, a feeling that held over into the X-Men: Apocalypse casting process.

“I said, ‘Is there a fight scene?’” Munn said of her early meetings with Kinberg and director Bryan Singer, when she was told there would be a lot of action, and not much dialogue in the part of Psylocke. “The fight scene could be her monologue.”

Munn even showed off the sword skills she picked up for X-Men: Apocalypse alongside Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds, who seemed comically underprepared for her abilities at the time.

Psylocke's combat skills have been on display throughout the marketing for X-Men: Apocalypse. 20th Centruy Fox has even recently released a brief featurette showing off her psychic blade. Check it out:

X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters May 27.
