Captain America: Civil War has broken records to become the highest-selling superhero movie in advance tickets ever for Fandango. The online ticket retailer didn't release any specifics, but said the Captain America sequel accounts for 90% of ticket sales for this weekend and earned a perfect 100 score from its "Fanticipation" movie buzz indicator.
“With an Avengers-sized ensemble cast, stellar advance reviews, the introduction of a new Spider-Man and new characters like Black Panther, the widespread anticipation for Thursday night’s debut of Captain America: Civil War is massive,” said Erik Davis, Fandango.com's Managing Editor. “Already hailed as Marvel's best movie yet, Cap and ‘friends’ can add a new notch in their belts with more advance tickets sold for Civil War than for any other superhero movie in Fandango’s 16-year history."
In a related Fandango survey of 1000+ advance ticket-buyers, only 8% hadn't seen Marvel's previous films starring Chris Evans as Cap. Additionally, Spider-Man's debut edges out Black Panther's only slightly, with 87% and 85% interest level. And counter-balancing the generally negative reviews of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Fandango's survey responders said that Civil War's positive reviews increased the excitement of 63% to see the movie.
Captain America: Civil War opens in theaters Thursday evening.
