Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow has topped a poll by Fandango for the Marvel Cinematic Universe Avenger that fans would most like to see in their own solo film, according to USA Today. Black Widow won with a resounding 48% over other Avengers supporting players such as the Vision (15%), Falcon (12%), Hawkeye (10%), War machine (8%) and Scarlet Witch (7%) in this poll of 1,000+ ticket buyers for Captain America: Civil War.
Black Widow has been eyed for a solo film going back years, even predating the MCU starter film Iron Man - in 2004, Lionsgate announced plans for a Black Widow solo film with X-Men screenwriter David Hayter on-board to write and direct. Hayter said a script was complete, but Lionsgate's option on the film lapsed. Both Marvel Studios' president Kevin Feige and Johansson herself have talked openly about the possibility to do a Black Widow solo film since then, but nothing substantial has been said about going forward with it.
The Fandango poll wasn't just about fan's choice for the next spin-off film however, as they also asked ticket-holders to choose a side in Civil War. Captain America garnered 57% to Iron Man's 43%.
“Captain America is the boyfriend you bring home to meet your parents, and Tony Stark is the boyfriend you hide from your parents,” said Fandango.com managing editor Erik Davis. "Here’s this guy who’s a man out of time, and he has to find a way to belong in a world where he doesn’t belong. People like that outsider aspect and it helps them invest in him more.”
Captain America: Civil War opens in theaters May 6.
