Lord of the Rings alum David Wenham has been cast as Harold Meachum in Marvel's Iron Fist on Netflix. This is a return for Wenham to comic book cinema, as he played Dilious in both 300 films.
"A ruthless corporate leader, Harold Meachum was partners with Danny Rand’s parents at the time of their deaths," reads Marvel's description. "What role he plays in Danny’s past and future will be revealed over the course of the series."
David Wenham's is the third actor cast for Iron Fist after Finn Jones' Danny Rand and Jessica Henwick's Colleen Wing. Meachum's daughter, Joy, was mentioned in an Iron Fist teaser released earlier this year, but no one has been announced for that role.
Marvel's head of television Jeph Loeb said Wenham's casting will bring "gravitas" to the Iron Fist series.
“I’m very excited to have David as our Harold Meachum. David is capable of displaying raw, visceral strength as well as extremely keen intelligence,” added showrunner Scott Buck. “This will add up to a character of complex depth who will keep us off balance all season."
Marvel also released the below teaser image coinciding with Wenham's casting as Meachum. In comic books, Meachum survived the the K'un L'un excursion that claimed the lives of Danny's parents, but lost his legs from frostbite. While Danny grew up in K'un L'un, Meachum took over his parents' Rand Corporation until Rand returned as Iron Fist.
