Update 3/18: According to The Hollywood Reporter, veteran tentpole screenwriter David Koepp has been hired to direct the new Indiana Jones film.
Koepp wrote the previous installment Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and has previously worked with director Steven Spielberg on Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park: the Lost World and War of the Worlds.
THR has no new details on the story or George Lucas' involvement or lack thereof.
Original story: Disney has announced plans for a new Indiana Jones film for July 19, 2019, with both director Steven Spielberg and star Harrison Ford returning for the sequel.
The pair have worked on all four previous Indiana Jones films, with the last being 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. As of now, Disney has not confirmed whether Indiana Jones cp-creator and producer George Lucas will be involved in the production.
Curiously, Disney has scheduled the film just one week after the planned release of Marvel's Inhumans film on July 12, 2019. The date of Inhumans now bears watching moving forward.
