After being derailed by the massive e-mail hack that may have contributed to Sony partnering with Marvel for its new Spider-Man film, the planned 23 Jump Street/Men In Black crossover film is reportedly back on track with director James Bobin taking over for Phil Miller and Christopher Lord.

Variety reports that the film is moving forward with Jump Street stars Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill attached, though Men In Black stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones will reportedly not be involved.

While Variety speculates new characters will be sought to replace Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones to pair with Hill and Tatum, Newsarama can't help buy wonder if Hill and Jonah's police officer characters being recruited into the Men in Black program to replace Smith and Jones themselves would be the most logical premise.

Mimicking the “fish out of water” premise that followed Will Smith’s character in the original Men In Black would follow the Jump Street formula, making the potential film a hybrid more than a crossover.

No potential release date has been set.
