The CW's Riverdale has found its Archie -- and Josie too -- for the upcoming pilot aimed for a late 2016 debut. Newcomer KJ Apa has been cast as Archie Andrews, with Ashleigh Murray (The Following) cast as musician Josie McCoy.
KJ Apa's Archie is described by Deadline as "an intense, conflicted teen, a boyish high school sophomore who got pumped up over the summer working construction and is now juggling the interest of several girls, as well as trying to balance his passion for writing and performing music — against the wishes of his father and his football coach."
The Pussycats frontwoman Josie McCoy is said to be "a gorgeous, snooty and ambitious girl who is the lead singer for popular band Josie and the Pussycats. She has zero interest in recording any songs written by fellow teen Archie."
These two actors join the recently cast Luke Perry as Fred Andrews, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, and Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper.
The CW is developing Riverdale as a one-hour drama written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, a writer that also doubles as Archie Comics's Chief Creative Officer. The network plans to film the pilot this spring, with the option to begin airing the series this fall.
