Hot on the heels of the success of the Rated-R Deadpool, the Motion Picture Association of America has announced that a Rated-R version of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is being released by Warner Bros. While at this time theatrical version will remain PG-13, the MPAA has revealed that the studio submitted a more violent "Ultimate Edition" of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice that has received the "R" rating. That "Ultimate Edition" is scheduled for release on home video.
The theatrical version of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was recently confirmed as being 2 hours and 31 minutes, but there's no word how much longer this extended "Ultimate Edition" would be.
It's important to note that this wouldn't be Zack Snyder's first Rated-R film; Watchmen, also done with Warner Bros., was Rated-R.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is scheduled to open in theaters March 25. No release date has been announced for the "Ultimate Edition."
