Johnny Depp has been cast for the title role in a remake of The Invisible Man for Universal Pictures, according to Deadline. The film is reportedly being produced by Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan, and done as part of a cinematic universe based on Universal's famous "monster" stable that includes Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster and the Wolfman.
Based on the 1897 novel by H.G. Wells, there have been several The Invisible Man films ranging from 1933's original starring Claude Rains to 2000's Hollow Man starring Kevin Bacon.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that Tom Cruise is set to star in a remake of The Mummy with Kurtzman directing. That film is scheduled for release June 9, 2017.
No release date was given for The Invisible Man.
