Deadpool may be getting some light fan backlash for its R-rating, but the scene reportedly almost included a scene that would have pushed it even farther.
"That bar scene was particularly mean and offensive to a lot of people,” director Tim Miller said at a Los Angeles screening of Deadpool (via Comic Book), “Because T.J. and Ryan got together and wrote a version of the scene that we just said, 'Oh my God, this is too far.' I mean there were so many people offended it would have really been - we couldn't do it. It was just mean and so I said, 'No. We don't have to do that.'"
It looks as though the R-rating won't hurt Deadpool's chances at the box office, however, as The Hollywood Reporter predicts that the film's opening box office could hit $55 million, with some estimates predicting a take home as high as $60 million.
20th Century Fox is expected to begin a marketing push for the film moving into February, with their popular series of oddball promo videos continuing with this clip in which the Merc With A Mouth celebrates Australia Day.
Deadpool hits theaters February 12.
