Marvel have announced via USA Today a new Star Wars title featuring Star Wars: The Force Awakens's Poe Dameron. Written by Charles Soule and drawn by Phil Noto, Star Wars: Poe Dameron will debut in April as an ongoing series and be set before The Force Awakens.
“Sometimes it can feel like the Star Wars universe is so well trodden and so many stories have already been told,” said Soule. “But the way the Episode VII galaxy is set up, there are opportunities for new archetypes almost, and the bad guy we’re working with is going to feel fresh and cool.”
This new series will put Dameron square into his X-wing cockpit, acting on General Leia Organa's orders out into the cosmos on a secret mission. While Soule doesn't say what the secret mission is, since this takes place before Star Wars: The Force Awakens it could be in the mission which ended up up on Jakku talking to Lor San Tekka -- the search for Luke Skywalker.
Soule also said that Dameron will face off against a new First Order villain created by him and Noto .
Details on the mission or the new villain are a mystery, Soule did confirm that BB-8 and some of Dameron's fellow pilots from Star Wars: The Force Awakens will appear in the series.
“It’s silly not to explore the idea of a guy who grew up steeped in the Rebellion and the older Republic and all of those myths and legends,” Soule said. “If you think about it, he grew up the way we did, hearing all of these stories.”
"I’ve seen people on Twitter and Instagram looking for Poe Dameron in the comics," Noto added. "Now the pressure’s on us to deliver.”
