George Lucas may have relinquished his creative rights to the Star Wars universe when he sold the franchise to Disney, but some fans are clamoring to bring him back into the fold for the 2019 finale.
A recent Change.org petition entreats the executives at Disney to oust Colin Trevorrow as director of Star Wars: Episode IX and bring in George Lucas to round out the new trilogy started by Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
“We have no problem with Colin Trevorrow, but he's not the right guy to direct Star Wars: Episode IX,” reads the petition drafted by Yuri Ruiz. “George Lucas as director of Episode IX would be the perfect way to end this new trilogy and make an epic farewell between the Father of Star Wars and the whole universe of the galaxy far, far away...”
Lucas directed the original Star Wars film, as well as the less well-regarded prequel trilogy. Unless Disney decides to take this petition to heart, Trevorrow will direct Star Wars: Episode IX, following Rian Johnson's Episode VIII.
At the time of this writing, the petiton has garnered only 482 supporters.
