New details on the widely rumored next Nintendo console have been revealed by a Japanese financial firm, according to Barron's. The console, which has been code-name internally as "NX," is expected to be launched this fall with an unveiling done this spring -- possibly at June's E3 Expo. For one financial analyst however, it's bad news as it'll cut into Nintendo 3DS and Wii U sales.
"We had previously thought that the NX launch would have only a limited impact on 3DS and Wii U sales as it is not being positioned as a successor to either console, but we have now altered our view because 3DS sales have been weakening a little recently," said Junko Yamamura of Nomura Securities. "We have lowered our estimates for current consoles to reflect the present situation, fiercer competition, and what has happened in the past when new hardware is announced."
The last major console Nintendo launched was the Wii U in 2012.
