New Comic Book Day is coming early -- but for one time only.
Some of the Marvel books scheduled for release January 6 are unexpectedly being moved up for release this Friday. This decision comes after the printer of the various books, along with Diamond Comics Distributors, prematurely shipped the books to retailers earlier this week. As a result, Marvel has given permission for retailers to sell these books earlier. The specific titles are: Amazing Spider-Man #6, Howard the Duck #3, Nova #3, Obi-Wan and Anakin #1, Rocket Raccoon & Groot #1, Spider-Man 2099 #5 and Spidey #2.
Given that Friday, January 1 is New Years Day, some comic book stores were scheduled to be closed or have limited hours. For those who read their comic books digitally, Marvel has said that the affected books will be on sale on comiXology and other platforms Friday at some point, but no specific time was given. comiXology has told Newsarama they plan to have all of the titles up "by Friday afternoon."
Diamond has sent a notice out to retailers that additional titles scheduled for January 13 will also be affected. Amazing Spider-Man #1.2, Darth Vader #15, Spider-Gwen #4, Ultimates #4 and second printing variant covers for All New Inhumans #1, Spider-Woman #1 and Totally Awesome Hulk #1 all being moved up for release January 6.
Secret Wars #9, which has been plagued by a series of delays, is not among the titles listed as being released early. Marvel lists its release date as January 13.
"Marvel apologizes for any inconvenience and is working with the printer to ensure that similar situations will not occur in the future," said an unnamed Diamond spokesperson. Retailers are asked to contact their Diamond representative with any questions.
