SPRING HAS SPRUNG1 of 12This week, Marvel released its March 2016 solicitations, and with the ads come new revelations and reveals for the "All-New, All-Different Marvel" Universe.
For starters, March marks the beginning of the path to Civil War II in Invincible Iron Man, while also seeing Steve Rogers pick up the shield for one last mission. But Steve and Tony aren't the only ones with big things happening in March.
As usual, Newsarama combed through these ads to pull out the ten biggest pieces of new information. Here's what we learned from Marvel's March solicitations.
Nova has Daddy Issues2 of 12The relationship between Sam Alexander and his father has been at the heart of the new volume of Nova since its launch – but that relationship may not be what it seems. The man who returned from the deep of space may not even by Sam’s father.
The solicitation for Nova #5 implies that the Jesse Alexander we’ve known for the last several issues is in fact an imposter, and that Sam’s next quest will be finding the real deal.
Lo, a new Giant-Man Walks Among Us3 of 12Raz Malhotra was given the mantle of Giant-Man all the way back in Ant-Man Annual #1 after he had an adventure with Scott Lang and Hank Pym. Pym himself bequeathed the costume to Malhotra, though he has yet to appear in costume with Secret Warstaking over the Marvel Universe before Malhotra could get into action.
Now, it looks like the new Giant-Man will finally make his debut in costume in Astonishing Ant-Man #6. The solicitation teases a partnership between Lang and Malhotra, with Lang mentoring the new hero – but will Lang’s personal dysfunctions get passed on to his new protégé?
Star-Lord x 24 of 12Peter Quill has had his hands full running the Spartax Empire, leaving his one-time fiancée Kitty Pryde to take up the mantle of Star-Lord and the leadership of the Guardians.
But with Quill returning to his former team in Guardians of the Galaxy #6, what will become of his replacement? Moreover, what will become of their relationship? Can the Galaxy handle two Star-Lords?
War On Magic5 of 12With new titles for Doctor Strang, Scarlet Witch, and Hercules, the magic side of the Marvel Universe is getting a renewed focus. But that may not be an entirely good thing, as it seems magic is in peril.
The solicitation for Doctor Strange #6 mentions the start of “The Last Days of Magic,” while Hercules #5 portends the death of “myths.” Likewise, Scarlet Witch #4 continues to explore the threats facing witchcraft. Could a major magical event be on the horizon?
Warlock Gets His Mojo Back6 of 12Adam Warlock hasn’t been seen in the Marvel Universe in some time, but he’s one of the most demanded characters to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, possibly in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. But before that happens, he’ll return to comic books in The Infinity Entity with his creator Jim Starlin in tow.
Not only that, but it looks like he’ll be back to full power when that series hits its fourth issue, the solicitation for which says he’s “omnipotent,” with his memories fully restored. Adam Warlock is one of the most important parts of the saga of the Infinity Gauntlet. With the Gauntlet playing a major role in Marvel’s films, could Warlock’s return herald a new story featuring the Infinity Gems?
Ms. Marvel has a posse7 of 12Kamala Khan may seem to have everything she’s ever dreamed of – super powers, a membership on the Avengers, all the super-team-ups she can handle – but it seems like not everything is going according to plan.
Seemingly on the outs with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, it looks like Kamala will have to assemble a new crew in Ms. Marvel #5, building a “Militia of Ms. Marvel Automatons” with the help of her friend Bruno.
It doesn't roll off the tongue quite like "the Carol Corps," but we'll give it a few months.
"Major Turning Point" for Silver Surfer8 of 12Silver Surfer has been on the outs with the heroes of the Marvel Universe before, having started his career as the herald of Galactus. In Silver Surfer #3, he may be headed back to that status quo, with the solicitation saying he’ll have to fight Marvel’s greatest heroes.
And, in a classic bit of comic book marketing, the solicitation also proclaims that the issue’s outcome is “Not a dream. Not a hoax,” and that Norrin Radd’s saga will be “profoundly changed” by the issue’s end. Could he be headed back to the world eater’s side?
An X-Man Dies In March9 of 12The X-Men’s new black-ops team in Uncanny X-Men are set to meet one of their biggest challenges early on, in the form of the Dark Riders, who they’ll face in Uncanny X-Men #4 and #5.
The solicitation for Uncanny X-Men #5 states that one X-Man will die – but who will it be? On a team of killers and villains – and some of the most iconic mutants still kicking – is anyone really expendable?
All-Classic Captain America?10 of 12Steve Rogers has been out of the stars and stripes a full year now, with his one-time sidekick Sam Wilson taking up the shield in his stead. Now, in Captain America: Sam Wilson #7 it looks like Steve will pick up his shield again – but for how long?
The ad says that Rogers will pick up his shield for “one last mission,” which he knows “could be his last.” But could this be the start of the return of the original Captain America to the uniform? 2016 is Cap’s 75th anniversary – will Marvel really let the milestone go by without putting Steve back in action?
Civil War II begins in INVINCIBLE IRON MAN11 of 12With Civil War becoming a major motion picture in 2016, it’s no wonder that Marvel would choose to revisit its biggest selling crossover on the page as well with Civil War II. Details have been scarce since the project was announced earlier this month, but readers may get answers about the sequel sooner rather than later.
The solicitation for Invincible Iron Man #7 promises that the issue will drop the first hints about Civil War II. Considering Tony Stark was one of the main characters in the original Civil War and looks to once again be one of the main players of its sequel, it makes sense that Civil War II would start here.
