Time to bust out those old classics. Sometime in the near future, you'll be able to play PlayStation 2 games on your PlayStation 4 - at least digitally.
Sony reportedly confirmed to Wired that it is working on bringing PlayStation 2 emulation technology to the PlayStation 4, allowing digital ports of classic games to be downloaded and played on the next-gen system.
“We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation,” a Sony representative reportedly confirmed via email. “We have nothing further to comment at this point in time.”
Speculation about whether Sony would implement PS2 emulation on the PS4 began when a PS4 bundle package was released including the console, a copy of the newly released Star Wars: Battlefront, and a collection of PS2 Star Wars games.
No information about when this technology will be widely implemented was revealed.
