Spoilers ahead for this week's Extraordinary X-Men #2.
Extraordinary X-Men #2 added more clues to Marvel’s mutant mystery. Along with confirming the fate of a major character, it also revealed the location of X-Haven, and the first villain the new team will face.
First up, it’s revealed that the Sentinel the X-Men were using to track Old Man Logan in the first issue is Cerebra, a mutant tracking robot built by Forge. Unfortunately, Logan isn’t so receptive to the former Sentinel – or to Storm’s proposal that he join the team. Storm and Iceman leave him in the wilderness, but not before Storm confirms that Logan’s old rival, Scott Summers, is dead.
Presumably Storm is talking about the older Cyclops – the younger version is still kicking in All-New X-Men. And while we still don’t know exactly what lead to Scott’s death, or what he did that was apparently so terrible for mutantkind, his fate is now known.
Meanwhile, the young Jean Grey is on a date with a new character named Chris when another man comes under attack for being a mutant. The assailants are worried he’ll spread the “M-Pox.” In saving the man, Jean reveals her mutanthood to her date, who wasn't aware she was a mutant.
"J-Jean?!," said Chris. "Oh, God! You're one of them!"
Jean's date runs off in disgust, leading Marvel Girl to tend to the other man she saved who reveals he's not a mutant, but rather an Inhuman. He too runs away in fear of Jean's manifestation of her powers.
The action then turns to Colossus and Magick who are on the hunt for Nightcrawler. Just when they think they’ve found him, it turns out they’re only partially correct – they’ve found his severed tail. After tracking the rest of him to the sewer, they encounter his kidnappers from the previous issue. After an altercation, it’s revealed that these are the new Marauders, under the orders of Mr. Sinister, who confesses that he’s excited to get his hands on the Rasputin bloodline before subduing Colossus and Magick.
The abduction of Magick is even more a problem when it's revealed that the X-Haven that Storm is sheltering mutants at is inside Limbo. Magick apparently helps keep out the unsavory elements of Limbo, and with her gone so are the new X-Men base's defenses.
Finally, the issue ends with Jean telepathically contacting Old Man Logan, who believes she’s a figment of his imagination. As it turns out, it’s young Jean Grey, and she’s come to meet with Logan. He’s shocked to see her alive – and youthful.
While Extraordinary X-Men #2 doesn’t provide all the answers – we’re still wondering what Cyclops did that lead to his death – it does reveal more about X-Haven, the fate of the mutants, and the mysterious M-Pox.
