AMC's The Walking Dead has cast actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan to play Negan beginning later this season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Morgan will reportedly debut in the sixth season's finale on April 3, 2016, before becoming the show's main antagonist for the fall 2016 seventh season.
In comic books, Negan debuted in The Walking Dead #100 as a foul-mouth antagonist who leads up a vigilante group known as the Saviors.
According to THR, Morgan's hiring came after "an extensive casting search" with the Watchmen actor beating out Timothy Olyphant, Matt Dillon and Garret Dillahunt for the role.
Morgan is a veteran of films based on comic books, ranging from Watchmen to Losers and even playing Thomas Wayne in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
