Ant-Man director Peyton Reed is in talks to return for the recently announced sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Scheduled for release in 2018, Ant-Man and the Wasp was added to Marvel Studios' film slate earlier this month and pushed around the release dates for Black Panther and Captain Marvel.
Although the original Ant-Man didn't match the box office receipts of other recent Marvel Studios films, the recent Chinese premiere exceeded industry expectations and gave it a combined $455m total so far.
Ant-Man and the Wasp already has titular stars Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly locked in -- Michael Douglas has said he only signed on for Ant-Man, but would be open to appear in other films for Marvel.
Rudd will appear next as Ant-Man in 2016's Captain America: Civil War.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is scheduled for release July 6, 2018.
