Updated October 21, 2015 at 4:27 p.m. ET: BOOM! Studios' Marketing Manager Mel Caylo elaborated further on this announcement with Newsarama, explaining that the cutbacks will not affect current series but rather the volume of new series the publisher would be developing going forward. BOOM! will be trimming their number of new titles by approximately 15% compared to what they have done in 2015.
Original Story: BOOM! Studios will be "trimming back" on the number of titles it'll be releasing in 2016. The move was announced at ICv2 in a brief interview with Filip Sablik, the publisher's President of Publishing & Marketing.
“All of the major mainstream comic publishers are pushing out more titles. Since February's ComicsPro meeting, it's something we've consistently heard from the front lines of the industry," said Sablik. "So we decided to swim upstream a bit by trimming back our line and really focus, doubling down on our marketing and our positioning for each title, believing that a sniper-like approach would yield better profitability. And when we ran our 2016 projections, our thought process was borne out—the numbers didn't lie."
The cuts will reportedly be mostly with the core BOOM! Studios line and the Archaia imprint, with a focus more on single issue series rather than graphic novels.
