DC Comics is launching a second Wonder Woman series in 2016 titled The Legend of Wonder Woman, according to The Hollwood Reporter. Written and illustrated by Renae De Liz, the nine-part digital-first series will act as a modern origin story beginning with her life on Themyscira before she decided to visit the outside world.
"The Legend of Wonder Woman spans Diana's rise as Wonder Woman (not just on Themyscira) and introduces her cast of characters," said De Liz on Twitter. "I had complete creative freedom with The Legend of Wonder Woman, with focus to establishing Wonder Woman in a strong, fun, adventurous, (most) ages way."
De Liz posted two pieces of art, one showing Etta Candy which she confirmed will be a part of the series.
It's unknown whether The Legend of Wonder Woman will be considered in continuity with the main DC universe, but THR said this book will fulfill a need for a "standalone 'origin' story" for the character" coinciding with March's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice movie in which the character will appear.
This new series will follow-up the recent Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman series, which will be ending in December.
The Legend of Wonder Woman #1 will be released January 2016.
