ComiXology has announced a deal with the manga publisher Kodansha to offer its titles digitally. Kodansha is the world's largest manga publisher, offering works such as Akira, Sailor Moon and the current blockbuster hit Attack on Titan. Over 350 Kodansha titles are now available on comiXology's platform, with more promised in the coming months.
“Kodansha is a publisher that comiXology fans have been clamoring to read on our platform,” said David Steinberger, comiXology’s co-founder and CEO. “I’m a huge fan of Attack on Titan and can’t wait to gift the first volume to friends and family and have them experience this great series on our platform for the first time!”
For decades, Kodansha sold licenses for American publication of its manga to outside companies such as Dark Horse and TOKYOPOP, but in 2008 the company opened it's own U.S. based imprint to publish manga itself in America.
“It’s wonderful to bring our deep manga library to comiXology and their passionate audience,” said Alvin Lu, General Manager of Kodansha Advanced Media, the Kodansha subsidiary in charge of its digital distribution. “We’re thrilled to provide a significant boost to comiXology’s manga selection with some of the most-talked-about new manga series, such as Noragami, The Seven Deadly Sins, and of course Attack on Titan.”
