Michael Shannon's Zod appeared to have been killed by Superman at the end of Man of Steel, but that isn't stopping him from reprising his role in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice -- but with a few changes.
In an interview with Vulture, Shannon recounts a funny incident on the set of Batman v Superman involving being trapped in a bathroom that opens the door to some bigger questions about Zod's character.
"I was in my costume, and I couldn’t use my fingers because in the sequel I have flippers instead of hands,” Shannon said. "So I had these wax flippers on my fingers, and I couldn’t open the door, and I could hear Zack [Snyder, the director] being like, 'Where’s Shannon? Where the fuck is he?' and the whole crew was standing around. I was like, knocking on the door with my flippers, 'Let me out of here!'”
Shannon said that he was soon discovered by a set worker, who saved him -- and his job.
“He was actually paying attention to what was going on. He came over and he opened the door for me. Otherwise I would have gotten fired.”
But there's a bigger question -- "wax flippers" on his fingers? Shannon didn't elaborate on this development, and although he may simply be exagerating for effect, it is possible those were props to later be changed with CGI for some metamorphosis for the character.
Shannon's Zod appeared briefly in trailers for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, albeit dead, but perhaps there's more to the character's story come 2016.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens in theaters March 25, 2016.
