Marvel and DC have expanded their superhero movie franchises to television, and 20th Century Fox has reportedly revealed that work on an X-Men television series could be imminent.
"[For] X-Men, we're in negotiations with Marvel. We're hopeful we'll be able to announce something soon," said Fox Television Group charman andn CEO Dana Walden at a press tour for the Television Critics Association, as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter. "We're not closed on a deal yet but it's something we're definitely pursuing,"
Earlier in the year, THR reported that Fox had tapped two of the Star Trek: Beyond writers, Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne, to write a pilot and series bible, with former 24 producers Evan Katz and Manny Coto lined up as showrunners. 20th Century Fox has yet to confirm those specific details.
Fox's Walden said that although 20th Century Fox own the rights to the X-Men, the contracts stipulate that Marvel has to sign off on any expansion of the X-Men to television.
