Viral video creators Thinkmodo recently performed a stunt using a human-shaped drone to promote 20th Century Fox's upcoming Fantastic Four film.
The drone was lit on fire, making it resemble the superhero team's Human Torch, whom is played in the movie by Michael B. Jordan. While flaming, the drone made a fly-by over Nassau County, New York's Fire Service Academy. Ten firefighters, along with two chiefs and firetrucks were on hand in case the stunt went wrong.
"We understood that it was risky, but we had complete faith in the team we worked with and the local firefighters at the facility who made it their priority to keep everyone and everything safe," said Thinkmodo co-founder Michael Krivicka to Adweek. “We selected the safest location, a fire training facility, which is designed for the purpose of burning and extinguishing things."
Putting the stunt together wasn't as simple as just lighting a drone on fire.
"It took a lot of testing because we had to find the right material to do it with," Krivicka said. "A special pyro technician had to figure out how to coat the aircraft so it burns in a way that the human shape reads well (instead of it looking like a big flaming ball)."
Fortunately, all the elements came together, making a successful flight for Thinkmodo's Human Torch. Check out a video of the stunt right here:
Fantastic Four hits theaters on August 7.
