The Hollywood Reporter has news that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are returning to comic books at BOOM! Studios. In an agreement with franchise owner Saban Brands, BOOM! will launch the new series focus on the classic 1990s era team.
“We have big, big plans that will build on the core universe of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers,” said Matt Gagnon, BOOM! Studios editor-in-chief. “We can’t give too much away just yet, but the story we’re kicking off with is vast in scope. Fans of BOOM! know we treat the existing properties we collaborate on with a focus on authenticity and quality. That’s the same sensibility we’re applying here.”
BOOM! will be selling six double-sided, one-page Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comics contained in blind bags at Comic-Con International: San Diego, showing off its first work with the license. These comics, by Mairghread Scot and Daniel Bayliss, are standalone but can also be read together to form a larger story.
Originally launched in 1993 as a live-action television series, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is now up to season 22 and Saban Brands has previously announced plans for a live-action movie reboot.
