In a recent chat with DigitalSpy, Ron Perlman said he wants Hellboy 3 to happen "sooner rather than later," saying "I'm getting to that age where, If I wait any longer, Hellboy 3 will be performed out of a wheelchair." Perlman also he admitted he was surprised by fan response to his call for Hellboy 3 on Twitter, saying "It started off a week's worth of incredible enthusiasm and feedback and passion, which kind of surprised me and humbled me."
While Perlman told DigitalSpy that he had no news about the possible sequel, he said that the fact that so many people were asking about it meant that the conversation was not dead yet. However, when asked about the possibility of crowdfunding Hellboy 3, Perlman said "I wouldn't want to be involved in any crowdfunding. I don't think its the fans' job to fund the movie. I think it's up to the people who do it professionally. I think it's the fans' job to sit back and buy popcorn and Coke and watch the movie and enjoy it."
Perlman did drop some hints as to the possible plot of Hellboy 3, however.
"I know Hellboy 3 was designed to resolve the dilemma of whether the beast of the apocalypse would live up to his oracle, his destiny of destroying mankind, or whether the best that we've seen nurtured all of these years, who's taken his immense super power, and used it in the opposite way to protect mankind - which one will win out? The destiny part of it is unnegotiable, and irreversible, so something rather dramatic has to happen in the third movie to find out which Hellboy prevails."
